Chasing the light across the globe
When it comes to leading change and building an inclusive workplace for disabled employees, we think it takes three stakeholders.
- The chief executive
- The senior disability champion and, crucially
- The network / ERG leaders.
When their work is aligned, great things happen.
#PurpleLightUp is a movement that has taken flight. Each year, in a mark of respect to UN International Day of Persons’ with Disabilities on 3rd December, hundreds of thousands of disabled employees, their employers, senior champions and allies, across the world celebrate the economic contribution of disabled employees.
It’s a time when networks / resource groups take their work to the virtual world and shout about the impact they are making on the lived experience of disabled employees. That is everything from:
- Making it easier for disabled employees with hidden disabilities to share information so they can get the workplace adjustments they need
- Making it easier for disabled employees to bring their authentic selves to work
- Supporting companies to build accessible design principles into
- Supporting allies and champions to lend their support to building accessible workplace cultures
So, this month is all about sharing success on the virtual airwaves.
